BARCELONA MARATHON 2009

Oh what a Day for me my best Marathon so far hope u like the pictures.Over 10000 people took part and some of the sites i saw where amazing. The Barcelona Marathon started at the Placa de Espanya at the bottom of the Olympic Hill - Montjuic - and takes in such famous sites as Nou Camp, Gaudi's Sagrada Familia and Pedrera and La Rambla before returning to to Placa de Espanya for the finish. When Barcelona held the Olympic Games the city used the opportunity to re-invent itself as one of Europes great destinations - and many years on it remains an essential on the grand tour.Thousands of runners from around the world took to the streets of Barcelona for this big sporting event. The route, which changes every year, leads us past many of the main historical landmarks of the city. Locals turned up in great numbers to show their support to those taking part. Also on a Personal note i would like to say,Please accept my most sincere condolences to the Dunne family on the loss of there son Colin Dunne, 27 from Roscore in Blueball near Tullamore, was a teacher in Killeigh National Mr Dunne had travelled to Spain with three fellow-runners, all members of Shamrocks GAA Club, where he captained the senior hurling and football sides.
He suffered a heart attack just five miles from the finishing line An only son, he is also survived by his father, Tom
